During the RejuvaHeart™ non-invasive procedure, a patient lies comfortably on a special bed where a set of inflatable cuffs (much like blood pressure cuffs) mechanically compress the blood vessels in the patient’s lower limbs to increase blood flow in the coronary arteries of the heart. The blood pressure cuffs are wrapped around the patient’s calves, thigh and buttocks. Computer technology, electrocardiography, and blood pressure monitor enable the accurate timing of gentle but firm inflation and deflation of the pressure cuffs with the patient’s heartbeat and blood pressure.
What is Happening During the RejuvaHeart™ ECP Procedure
- Blood pressure cuffs are placed around your calves, thighs and buttock
- An EKG triggers the cuffs to inflate and deflate in sync with your own heart beat.
- During the heart’s resting phase, when the body is receiving the blood supply, the cuffs inflate, pushing oxygen-rich blood toward your heart.
- As your heart begins pumping again, the cuffs deflate allowing your heart to not have to work so heart pumping blood.
It is suggested that patients wear close fitting exercise tights or cycling pants during the treatment to eliminate any rubbing or chaffing from the compression cuffs. as they inflate and deflate during the hour long treatment session. Most patients report that once they have had a few treatments, they become quite relaxed during the treatment and some even take a nap, others read, check emails, listen to music, etc.
After RejuvaHeart™ Treatments
Many patients report little change after the first 5 or 6 RejuvaHeart™ sessions but then as they continue on with the treatments they begin to tell the difference and report feeling more energy and a better overall feeling. After completing the treatments many say that it regained their quality of life and that they could now do things they have been unable to do for years.
In order to continue managing your heart disease, in is strongly advised to change your lifestyle, change your eating habits and manage your weight. Continue to take all medications as prescribed by your physician. Start a regular exercise program. Walking 30 minutes or more a day will greatly help your cardiovascular system to maintain the positive effects that RejuvaHeart™ treatment had on it. If you haven’t quit smoking by now – quit! RejuvaHeart™ is a great treatment program but must have on-going participation from the patient for continued good health.
